The rain has hampered my walking workouts this week.  At some point this weekend Hurricane Ike blows into town.  I’m hoping to get out in the morning tomorrow before the wind & rain comes. . .

Today is my dad’s birthday.

Dad Paul R. Williamson September 12, 1932 – October 14, 2006 Happy Birthday Dad.  I miss you.

I broke the 16:00 minute mile average pace today.  Woohoo!  *smiling*  It was a great day for a walk with a luxurious breeze.  Today was Sunday so it seemed like there were a lot of couples & families out biking, but it was not as hectic as a Saturday.

Mileage walked to pick up a few groceries.  The cat needed some food.  So along with a bag of seafood flavor Meow Mix, I picked up a Hershey’s All Natural Extra Dark Chocolate Bar & some Karamel Sutra Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.  Yum.  The cat needed it.  Really.  Honest.  He loves the stuff!  Okay, maybe not the dark chocolate; but he does love the Ben & Jerry’s.  You can ask him!  Ludo, no one believes that I bought the Ben & Jerry’s for you. . .

Ludo doesn't think so either

The breeze this morning made it almost nippy ~ almost.  It was very enjoyable actually.  I love it when there is cloud cover.  I was so glad that it didn’t start raining during my walk because I thought it might at any minute.  The squirrels were out everywhere obviously enjoying themselves and so was I.  Or maybe they were scurrying about feeling the need to start getting ready for winter.  I’m not sure.  Oh, wait, it’s chipmunks that store up for winter.  Whatever.  All I do know is that I was enjoying my walk.

There are a couple of places & times I wish I had my camera with me.  Perhaps I should take a day and walk the trail with the camera to take pictures instead of motoring along at (my current) top speed.

It was a nice day for a power walk with the cloud cover and breeze. The Black-eyed Susans are in bloom down near the river. They are so pretty. I love Black-eyed Susans. I miss growing things like veggies and wildflowers. . .

As per usual, I started my power walk much later than I had planned because I have no willpower when it comes to getting out of bed early. The overnight lows are warmer than they had been so I really should try to get out about an hour earlier. There was light cloud cover today which helps.

When I was walking by a gentleman sitting on a bench, he said something about a “vision of heaven” and I thought, “Is he talking about me?” Then he goes on talking and I hear something about “old ladies and how he loves them” and I realize he’s talking about the old planes that are taking off and flying over us. And here I was thinking maybe I was somebody’s vision of heaven–at least for a few moments.

Wow, there was a bit more moisture in the air today than there has been the last few days. Almost like a fog but not quite. I’m thinking that maybe that’s what the dew point measures? Maybe I should pay attention to that reading as well as the humidity because cool breeze or or no cool breeze, it’s a difficult power walk when there’s a lot of moisture in the air for this former desert dweller. On the way back down the trail, I kept thinking “I’ll stop at that point up there and then subtract the mileage for today’s walk.” But then I kept on going anyway. And, hello? I’d still have to WALK the distance I was planning to subtract in order to get back home. It took my brain a bit to recognize that fact. LOL

I went a little farther than my normal 5 mile walk to see what was up around the bend so to speak. The trail is shaded by nice trees but there’s a few more dips and hills. Yikes! It was a great power walk though. Definitely my fastest time and my first mile was at a 17:16 pace so part of the way I think I had to be under a 16 minute mile to bring my average time down to 16:10. Yippee! Progress.
