Walking Log 4 September 2008

Temp: 67° / Cloudy & Breezy
Time: 1:31 / 16:04 avg pace / 3.73 mph
Route: 5.75 mile River Park trail
Daily: 5.75 mi / Monthly: 12.5 mi / YTD: 125.75 mi

The breeze this morning made it almost nippy ~ almost.  It was very enjoyable actually.  I love it when there is cloud cover.  I was so glad that it didn’t start raining during my walk because I thought it might at any minute.  The squirrels were out everywhere obviously enjoying themselves and so was I.  Or maybe they were scurrying about feeling the need to start getting ready for winter.  I’m not sure.  Oh, wait, it’s chipmunks that store up for winter.  Whatever.  All I do know is that I was enjoying my walk.

There are a couple of places & times I wish I had my camera with me.  Perhaps I should take a day and walk the trail with the camera to take pictures instead of motoring along at (my current) top speed.

Time: 1:33 / 16:22 avg pace / 3.66 mph
Route: 5.75 mile River Park

It was a nice day for a power walk with the cloud cover and breeze. The Black-eyed Susans are in bloom down near the river. They are so pretty. I love Black-eyed Susans. I miss growing things like veggies and wildflowers. . .

Walking Log 29 August 2008

Temp: 73° / Cloudy
Time: 1:05 / 16:41 avg pace / 3.59 mph
Route: 4 mile River Park
Daily: 3.9 / Monthly: 60.2 / YTD: 113.25

As per usual, I started my power walk much later than I had planned because I have no willpower when it comes to getting out of bed early. The overnight lows are warmer than they had been so I really should try to get out about an hour earlier. There was light cloud cover today which helps.

When I was walking by a gentleman sitting on a bench, he said something about a “vision of heaven” and I thought, “Is he talking about me?” Then he goes on talking and I hear something about “old ladies and how he loves them” and I realize he’s talking about the old planes that are taking off and flying over us. And here I was thinking maybe I was somebody’s vision of heaven–at least for a few moments.

Walking Log 27 August 2008

Temp: 69° / Sunny & hazy from moisture
Time: 1:26 / 16:51 avg pace / 3.56 mph
Route: 5 mile River Park trail
Daily: 5.1 mi / Monthly: 56.3 mi / YTD: 109.35

Wow, there was a bit more moisture in the air today than there has been the last few days. Almost like a fog but not quite. I’m thinking that maybe that’s what the dew point measures? Maybe I should pay attention to that reading as well as the humidity because cool breeze or or no cool breeze, it’s a difficult power walk when there’s a lot of moisture in the air for this former desert dweller. On the way back down the trail, I get thinking “I’ll stop at that point up there and then subtract the mileage for today’s walk.” But then I kept on going anyway. And, hello? I’d still have to WALK the distance I was planning to subtract in order to get back home. It took my brain a bit to recognize that fact. LOL

Walking Log 26 August 2008

Temp: 71° / Partly Cloudy
Time: 1:32 / 16:10 avg pace / 3.7 mph
Route: 5.75 mile River Park
Daily: 5.75 mi / Monthly: 51.2 mi / YTD: 104.25 mi

I went a little farther than my normal 5 mile walk to see what was up around the bend so to speak. The trail is shaded by nice trees but there’s a few more dips and hills. Yikes! It was a great power walk though. Definitely my fastest time and my first mile was at a 17:16 pace so part of the way I think I had to be under a 16 minute mile to bring my average time down to 16:10. Yippee! Progress.

Walking Log Update 23 August 2008

Daily: 4.9 mi / Monthly: 45.45 mi / Total: 98.5

Logging 1 mile trip to Walmart & back for groceries. Yeah, I just like to see the mileage totals go up even if it’s only a mile at a time. *smile*

I checked out the prices of different mp3 players while at Walmart. Another thing I’ll need a loan for, I guess. Unless one of my children wants to send their mother money for an ipod or zune. Hahahaha. (Not likely, they’re just as broke as their mother.) I checked out the prices on some work out wear while there also. The prices at Walmart seem to be more in fitting with my budget. Maybe one of these days I rejoin the ranks of those living above poverty level.

Walking Log 23 August 2008

Temp: 75° / Cloudy / Very Moist
Time: 1:05 / 16:37 avg pace / 3.61 mph
Route: 4 mile River Park
Daily: 3.9 mi / Monthly: 44.45 mi / Total: 97.5 mi

The cloud cover was very heavy today. It was almost like walking just before the sun comes up although in actuality the sun had been up for more than an hour when I started out. It was quite nice. There was a lot of moisture in the air and I ended up taking my glasses off before I reached the first mile mark because I get fogging them up. I was soaking up the deliciously refreshing breeze in my face on the way back. Can a breeze be delicious? I think so.

There were a lot of people out today. (It was a Saturday.) A number of times, the trail was congested with walkers, runners and bikers all trying to get past one another without a collision. I had a good power walk though. Not nearly as difficult as yesterday’s seemed. Maybe because I had less weighing on my mind. . .

Walking Log 22 August 2008

Temp: 78° / Partly Cloudy / Humid
Time: 1:06 / 17.01 avg page / 3.52 mph
Route: 4 mile River Park
Daily: 3.9 mi / Monthly: 40.55 mi / Total: 93.6 mi

It was a long, hard 4 miles after the joy & ease of yesterday’s 5 miles. The breeze was refreshing and that’s about all I have to say about today’s walk. LOL

Walking Log 21 August 2008

Temp: 75° / Cloudy
Time: 1:25 / 16:38 avg pace / 3.61 mph
Route: 5 mile River Park trail
Daily: 5.1 mi / Monthly: 36.65 mi / Total: 89.7 mi

I haven’t done a powerwalk in almost a week. I almost went further than the 5 mile trail. I was seriously considering the 6.6 mile trail but knew I hadn’t had enough water. Now a couple hours of later, I *really* wish I had pushed myself farther. I *feel* like I want to go back out for another walk. You see, walking usually quiets all the other noise in my head and somehow the noise of life is still rattling around in my head today even after my 5 miles. It’s making my much needed time of solitude really difficult. . . Actually, I’m having a hard time focusing on any of the things I need to get done. I guess that’s why I am still feeling the need to walk more. [sigh] Maybe some praise and worship music will do the trick. . . Off to put on some Phil Wickham and praying for Father to still my mind.
