Logging in the mileage from walking to the post office and back. . . carrying about 15 pounds of books, in the heat, and it was uphill BOTH ways. [kidding -- not about the heat and the books, though.]

Walking Log 13 August 2008

Loving the cooler mornings because I can go out a bit later to walk. (I just hate dragging my body out of bed at 6:00 am in the morning. . .) This week I’m trying to make the 4 mile trail my normal workout routine. I may do a 5 miler but otherwise I’ve moved past the 3 miler and onto the 4 for my every day power walk. The next long walk to conquer will be the 6 miler — which is actually 6.65 miles.

Even though there are drinking fountains along the trail, I think I should invest in a water bottle before I attempt a power walk that’s almost 7 miles.

Temp: 71° / Sunny
Time: 65 min / 16:38 avg pace / 3.57 mph
Route: 4 mile River Park
Daily: 3.9 mi / Monthly: 23.8 mi / Total: 76.85

Walking Log 12 August 2008

There was even more fog this morning than yesterday. It was nice and cool although humid. When I first started out the fog looked like it was going to lift and I was thinking, “No, come back, wait until I’m done walking so I don’t have to walk in the sun and humidity!” But it stayed around and I got in my 4 miles in under the cover of fog. *smile*

One last thing. . . about workout wear, when did it get so expensive? Or maybe it’s that I’ve gotten so frugal that the prices just gave me sticker shock. LOL I certainly won’t be sporting any new name brand stuff except for my shoes, of course, because I know I can’t skimp on prices for those. I am checking out some other sites online for a waterproof jacket. I’m also checking on the prices for pieces I can wear when it starts getting cooler. I may have to take out a loan. . .

Temp: 71° / Foggy / Humid!
Time: 65 min / 16:37 avg pace / 3.6 mph
Route: 4 mile River Park
Daily: 3.9 mi / Monthly: 19.9 mi / Total: 72.95

Walking Log 11 August 2008

I *really* could have used a longer walk today, but the weather was threatening rain so I decided a quick, short walk would be best. Not that I mind getting wet. It’s not like I’m afraid of melting. [And, okay, now it's driving me insane that I can't upload photos!! Anyone else having trouble with the Wordpress uploader thingy? So imagine there's a picture of the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz HERE.] Although the rain does some strange things to my naturally curly hair. . . [Now imagine there's a picture from Sweeney Todd inserted HERE.] Blah.

Anyway, there was a light fog in the distance when I started out. As I got further on the trail, it was misting which made my glasses a mess. Finally just took them off. By the time I got to the 1 mile turn around point it was “What? A light drizzle?” (I think I’ve quoted that correctly. Name that Meg Ryan romantic comedy). Since I wasn’t sure if it was going to start pouring down rain at any moment, I decided not to go further even though I *really* wanted to. I guess I need to invest in some sort of waterproof jacket for days like this. I’m off to investigate. . .

PS: The reason I felt like a long walk today was because of a bit of bad news yesterday afternoon. My ex-hubby’s youngest sister passed away. I think she was around 45. I’ve known her since we were teenagers. Sadly, alcohol played a big part in her early death.

Temp: 72° / Cloudy
Time: 32 min / 16:17 avg pace / 3.58 mph
Route: 2 mile River Park

Walking Log 8 August 2008

I had a great walk this morning! [Well, all except for the dead scorpion on the trail. They give me the creeps!] I power walked the 5 mile route just a tad faster than the 4 mile route I did the day before yesterday; so I guess my average pace per mile has gotten faster. I like the feeling that I’m making real progress towards better fitness. Oh, and I did hit the right turn around mark for the 4 mile route the day before yesterday which I was able to figure out on the way back on the 5 mile route today. [Okay, I'm sure I'm the only one who was concerned about that. . .]

Temp: 75° / Cloudy
Time: 1:26 / 16:47 avg pace / 3.57 mph
Route: 5 mile River Park
Daily: 5.1 mi / Monthly: 13.00 mi / Total: 66.05 mi

Walking Log 6 August 2008

I haven’t been on a power walk in over a week. What is up with that?? (I hate getting up early is the problem. . .) So today I forced myself up and out of bed to go! Of course, once I get into the walk, all is peace and bliss. (Do they mean the same thing?) Anyway, I found myself wondering if I should just go for the full five mile power walk instead of only three. . . decided against the full five and settled for four miles instead.

The *only* problem with my four mile route is that I can’t tell *exactly* where the turn around point is until I’m on the way back! Last time I over shot it; I think this time I under shot it because I can’t imagine that I’ve shaved a full minute off my average mile pace time after not having power walked for over a week. I guess I’ll find out the next time I go walking because I’m going to make sure I know exactly where the turn around point is even if I have to erect a marker!

I do wish it was easier to tell on the satellite view of Google Maps at Map My Walk what’s where on the trail. . .

Walking Log 3 August 2008

Just logging in the miles for another errand. . . A trip to Walmart to get some ingredients to make Pioneer Woman’s “It’s Not Your Granny’s Mac & Cheese.” Try it if you haven’t already. It’s delicious! I think I could live on this for a month and be happy.

Walking Log 1 August 2008

Just logging my totals here after today’s run to the PO — well, walk actually. Yes, it was warm and humid and I was loaded down with about 15 extra pounds of books. However, it’s 3 miles round trip and 3 worthwhile miles that need to get logged, right?

I won’t be making my goal again for this week, and I haven’t decided whether to do a 3 or 5 miler tomorrow morning. I will need to get out there early. . . We are in the middle of a heat advisory because of the temperature combined with the humidity. It’s not the temperature that bothers me, though, after living in the NV desert for 35 years — it’s the humidity! It’s suffocating. UGH.
